The Indian Prime Minister's Opening Statement at the India-Africa Forum Summit in April 2008 and his visit to Africa in May 2011 paved new ways for Indo-African collaboration. The Indian government's initiative of offering a $5 billion line of credit over the next three years to the African region was a major milestone in this regard. Subsequent to a cabinet decision after the Prime Minister's Africa visit, various initiatives have been taken to further strengthen Indo-African ties.
The Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), the Research arm of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, is committed towards taking the vision of the Hon'ble Prime Minister to a concrete reality.
DRDO and FICCI, working under the banner of the ATAC Programme, have started taking initiatives in this direction and DRDO's recent participation in the India-Africa Business Partnership Summit at Hyderabad during October 12-13, 2011 is a strong testimony towards its commitment to forge strong Indo-Africa ties. |
